Grief Informed Perinatal Care Podcast
A podcast for the professionals who care for families when pregnancy, birth, and postpartum include loss.
-
Grief Informed Perinatal Care is a professional education podcast for doulas, birth workers, postpartum professionals, nurses, therapists, caregivers, and anyone supporting families through pregnancy and infant loss.
Hosted by Vallen Webb, founder of Evelyn James & Company, the podcast explores the parts of loss care that are too often overlooked once the immediate medical crisis is over
-
We talk about pregnancy and infant loss, grief, trauma, postpartum recovery after loss, maternal mental health, lactation, pregnancy after loss, partners and siblings, family systems, professional boundaries, provider wellbeing, and the need for better continuity of care from hospital to home.
Because supporting a family after loss is about more than knowing what to say.
It is understanding what grief can look like. Recognizing when trauma or mental health concerns may also be present. Knowing your scope. Supporting the postpartum body. Including the whole family. Making thoughtful referrals. And continuing to care long after everyone else assumes the hardest part is over.
This podcast is here to help professionals feel more prepared, more confident, and more capable of showing up when families need them most.
-
The goal is bigger than better conversations.
We are working toward a future where families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss receive grief-informed, trauma-aware, family-centered care from hospital to home and throughout the first year after loss, while the professionals walking beside them are educated and supported, too.
The baby may have died. The need for care did not.
Episode 97: Grief Is Not a Mental Illness. But Some Grief Needs More Support.
Grief is not a mental illness. But grief can exist alongside depression, anxiety, PTSD, PMADs, and other mental health concerns, and knowing when someone needs more support matters.
In this episode, Vallen breaks down the difference between normal acute grief, traumatic grief, perinatal mental health conditions, PTSD, and prolonged grief disorder, while helping perinatal professionals understand what to notice, what is within their scope, and how to make a referral without making a grieving parent feel abandoned.
Episode 95: Grief and Joy After Pregnancy Loss | You’re Not Broken After Baby Loss
Vallen speaks to the guilt, shame, love, and emotional duality that can come after loss, while offering hope, validation, and practical ways to make space for both sorrow and joy. If you have ever wondered whether it is okay to feel good again after losing your baby, this conversation is for you.
Episode 94: The In-Between Self: What Grief Teaches You About Who You Are Now | Identity After Pregnancy Loss | Grief, Motherhood, and Who You Are Now
In this episode, Vallen reflects on the quiet and often misunderstood reality of life after baby loss. She talks about how motherhood does not begin or end with a heartbeat, how losing a baby can leave you feeling invisible, and why the version of you before loss may no longer fit. She also shares how grief forced her to rethink her story, sit in the uncomfortable in-between, and slowly make room for a new version of herself to emerge.
