What Certification Requires
To become an Evelyn James Certified Bereavement Doula, you will complete a deeper certification process beyond the foundational training. This includes reflective reading, written reflections, a bereaved family interview, resource development, virtual group sessions, a one-on-one meeting, and submission of your full certification packet. You will also review and agree to our standards of practice, code of ethics, and grievance policy.
This process is designed to help you not only learn the material but truly integrate it in a way that strengthens your confidence, compassion, and professionalism.
Inside the certification process, you will:
Complete the foundational training
Attend a one-on-one meeting with Vallen
Participate in 2 virtual group sessions
Read 4 approved books and complete reflection questions
Interview a bereaved parent, partner, or grandparent
Write an essay on the value of perinatal loss support
Create a local and online resource list
Submit your completed certification packet
Review and sign professional standards, ethics, and grievance policies
We want this certification to mean something. That is why this pathway includes not just education, but reflection, lived-experience learning, ethical grounding, and practical application. Our goal is to help you become a more thoughtful, confident, and deeply prepared support person for bereaved families.
